Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa: views from mountain to sea, sunrise to sunset

The world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom is right on our doorstep, with marked paths leading through the hotel’s indigenous gardens…

By Juan Wolmarans
Operations Manager at The Twelve Apostles

The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa is all about location, views and tranquility. We overlook one of the world’s most scenic stretches of road, which runs between the deep blue Atlantic Ocean and the gorges of the Twelve Apostles mountain range. From my ‘office’ I get to see the sun’s first rays poking through the mountain ravines and then in the evening, from our chic Leopard Bar, I can watch it set over the sea. We’re lucky enough to have a seal colony in front of the hotel and one of our staff will ring a bell whenever a whale or dolphin is spotted.

We benefit hugely from our location on the flanks of the mountain range within Table Mountain National Park. Guests can go walking, enjoy a private panoramic picnic or follow our three-kilometre fynbos hiking trail. The world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom is right on our doorstep, with marked paths leading through the hotel’s indigenous gardens.

We like to showcase our unique environment whenever we can. Our sushi master forages for seaweed to use in his dashi soup base, while bar manager Angus goes foraging for fynbos herbs to match guests’ tasting profiles. Buchu, for example, has strong citrus notes and goes very well in a hand-crafted gin cocktail.

Our owners always try to enhance the site’s natural beauty. The latest addition to the hotel is the Twelve Apostles Braai, a striking glass box set in the middle of our indigenous gardens. The views are unbelievable and I can highly recommend the braai broodjies and the marinated trout (sustainably caught) with Granny Smith apple and soy jelly.
