360-degree views from Serengeti Bushtops’ cutting-edge 4x4s

By Pantaleo Mghanga
Camp Manager, Serengeti Bushtops

At Bushtops, we offer early morning, afternoon and all-day game drives in the iconic Serengeti National Park. Our converted Toyota 4×4 vehicles have been specially designed to allow guests a 360-degree view of their surroundings. The sides are completely open so you can see animals from every angle and the plush seats are comfy for long drives. If you’re heading out for a full day, we’ll provide you with a picnic lunch – we can also arrange a private bush breakfast if you’d like.

The Serengeti is world-famous for its wildlife diversity. On a game drive, you have a great chance of seeing the African Big Five: the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and even the endangered rhino, as there’s a healthy population of them in the northern Serengeti. Other animals you’re likely to see include herds of wildebeest, zebra, topi and impala as well as hyenas and Thomson’s gazelles. There are also plenty of colourful bird species – the Serengeti is just a paradise for animal lovers.

Our driver-guides are all incredibly friendly, experienced and fully qualified. They love to share their knowledge of the landscape and wildlife with guests. You’ll also be accompanied by one of our spotters from the local Kuria community who live adjacent to the national park. We’re proud to provide them with job opportunities so they don’t need to turn to poaching to make a living – this has been a real conservation success story. Guests rave about our guides and spotters and how amazing they are at seeking out animals.

Some of the most exciting game drives I’ve experienced have been during the Great Migration, watching crossings at the Mara and Grumeti Rivers. You park up and watch as wildebeest and zebra wade across while trying to avoid hungry crocodiles.

The day usually ends with sundowners in the bush, so you can enjoy a cocktail while the sun sets over the plains. Our top sundowner location is at Simba Rock, a gorgeous outcrop with sweeping views, where you can watch the sky change colour.

Plan your holiday withAlfred&

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
