Take a break from sightseeing in Hue and cycle to Chuon Lagoon to meet local fishermen and sail the peaceful waters. People love this tour because you get to learn about rural life in Vietnam and meet families whose lifestyle has barely changed in centuries. We’re diving into the daily routines of real lagoon life.
The tour begins with a pick-up in Hue, then we cycle for 90 minutes to the lagoon on narrow paths beside the Nhu Y River, mainly off-road. We’ll go through rich rice paddies and the 16th century Thuy Thanh Village, which was founded by Prince Nguyen Hoang and still has its original houses and temple. From Thanh Toan Bridge, you can get a great view of the rice fields, criss-crossed with irrigation streams.
The highlight is the sampan ride around Chuon Lagoon and getting to taste fresh, local seafood such as the Banh Khoai Can Kinh, fried fish pancake. We’ll meet fishermen who trawl for fish and shrimp, often in 12-hour shifts, selling their catch at the morning market. I like to show tourists the ancient fishing techniques, which you can even try for yourself. Everyone enjoys watching the sunset over the water before we transfer back to Hue – it’s really magical.
