Things to do in Tanzania

Coffee tours, horse-riding and game drives at The Manor

The Manor Ngorongoro is the perfect place to relax, enjoy our many on-site activities and explore the region…

By Altus Do Toit
Manager of The Manor at Ngorongoro

Planted in the 1,500-acre Shangri-La coffee estate, The Manor Ngorongoro is the perfect place to relax or enjoy our many on-site activities. Learn all about the coffee production process with a guided tour around the estate, which ends with roasting and tasting a cup of your own coffee. You can also go horse riding with one of our guides, who will make even the most inexperienced rider feel safe and comfortable. If it’s relaxation you crave though, book a massage at the spa, go for a swim in our pool or enjoy high tea in the gardens.

What’s also special about The Manor is that we’re ideally located between the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. You can spend your days out exploring on game drives, visiting the crater floor with our guide Gandhi, who will point out the area’s unique geological features and wildlife. You’ll spot lions and antelope species, baboons, zebra and elephants. Look out for rhinos and rare tree-climbing lions – Gandhi has seen as many as 20 at once in a single tree.

Many of our visitors also opt to visit Lake Manyara. The alkaline pool is beautiful, at the moment it’s very full and surrounded by forest and greenery. You’ll see all kinds of animals there, from giraffes to elephants, wildebeest and plenty of baboons and hippos. There are giant fig and mahogany trees in the park that grow in abundance thanks to water from the lake, springs and crater highlands. Lake Manyara is particularly pretty at sunset – it’s one of the most spectacular sights I’ve seen in Tanzania.

Plan your holiday withAlfred&

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
