What sets Villa Maly apart from other hotels in Luang Prabang is that it’s an original, UNESCO-protected building with an amazing history. Built in 1938, the property was once home to Laos royalty and despite being occupied by American forces in the Vietnam war, it remained in the royal family until the 1990s. In 2007, the Apple Tree Group acquired the property and turned it into a boutique hotel.
We’ve preserved the building’s original Lao-French colonial architecture, which gives Villa Maly its historical charm, making it a genuine boutique residence. The hotel is in a fantastic location within walking distance of the city centre and there are free bikes available for our guests to use. You can enjoy our tropical gardens and pool, massage service and restaurant serving Laos and Western dishes. We can even arrange traditional baci ceremonies – a ritual used to celebrate important events and occasions – on request.
Guests comment on the superb service at Villa Maly, the calm and quiet atmosphere and the comfortable rooms, which feature art deco style with colonial touches. At Villa Maly, we’re proud that all of our staff are from Laos and we try to help the community with regular city clean-ups, by supporting local events and by working with schools to provide internship and training schemes.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Adele, who's travelled extensively in Laos. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the guide who can hone your pétanque skills while playing with the locals, the conservationist who can take you trekking with Asian elephants and the monks who can school you in the craft of Makbeng and Pasaat Pheung making.
