This pottery making workshop is perfect if you want to be creative and learn how traditional Vietnamese ceramics are made. You’ll be instructed by artists from Bat Trang Village, which has been creating beautiful ceramic products for seven centuries. These works of art include everything from household items like bowls and dishes to decorative items for temples and special occasions. Nowadays, the village exports their products throughout Vietnam and even overseas.
Although Bat Trang Village lies 40 minutes from Hanoi, they also have a shop in Hanoi’s Old Quarter where you can take this three-hour workshop, so there’s no need to travel far. Most people like to add the pottery workshop to their Hanoi itinerary as a break from city sightseeing and guests find the experience very relaxing. They enjoy learning about the ancient techniques the artists use to create their ceramics, which are unique to Vietnam, and what life is like in Bat Trang.
After watching a demonstration, you’ll get the chance to make your own ceramic products and play with the clay and turntables. The artists are on hand to offer help and advice if you need it. After you’ve decorated your ceramic, it will be sent to Bat Trang Village to be fired in the oven. Your pottery will be returned three days later or shipped to your home country, so you’ll have a handmade souvenir of your trip to Hanoi.
