Look out for nocturnal creatures and gaze up at a sky full of constellations and planets …
Gaze up at thousands of stars and spot nocturnal creatures on this exciting evening activity at Nyungwe House. The experience starts at 6pm, when we head out with torches to explore the grounds. Along the way, we look out for nocturnal animals that live around the resort, like flying squirrels, bush babies and the African civet, a type of big cat that often roams our tea plantation. We might also spot jackals and foxes, with their eyes shining back at us from within the trees.
Guests really love the stargazing element of this trip. I’ll point out the constellations and planets with a laser pointer and tell you all about the night sky. We often sit and relax on the deck where there’s a telescope but really you can see everything with the naked eye – especially in the dry season when the weather is clearest. You’ll spot everything from the Southern Cross to Scorpio, Orion, the Milky Way and Big Dipper. It’s particularly amazing when the local dancers come to the property and perform beneath a sky full of stars.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Vicki, who's travelled extensively in Rwanda. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the guides who track mountain gorillas day and night to ensure you get the best sightings, the Kigalians who'll give you a real insight into their vibrant city and the coffee-growers who'll tutor you in the art of tasting.
