Petanque with the locals in Luang PrabangGuests really enjoy getting a taste of Laos culture on this tour, where you’ll get to play petanque alongside the locals. This excursion is different from the usual Luang Prabang temple and museum tours because you get to experience one of Laos’s most popular sports, which was brought here by French people in colonial times.

Everybody in Laos likes to play petanque and it’s particularly popular in the afternoon as a way to relax and hang out with friends. We usually pick up guests around 2-3pm and take them to one of the bigger petanque courses in Luang Prabang. After explaining the rules, we split into teams and have several matches with other tour groups and locals in the stadium.

Normally, we play for a couple of hours and spend some time chatting over local snacks and Beer Lao before dropping guests back at their hotel. The trip is great for all ages, especially for people who enjoy sports. It’s a real local experience where you can join in with everyday life in Luang Prabang.

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Adele, who's travelled extensively in Laos. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the guide who can hone your pétanque skills while playing with the locals, the conservationist who can take you trekking with Asian elephants and the monks who can school you in the craft of Makbeng and Pasaat Pheung making.
