Taj Fateh Prakash Palace: Udaipur’s royal hotel

The hotel is part of Udaipur’s iconic 16th century City Palace Complex, which still serves as a royal residence today…

By Shraddha Gupta
Sales and marketing manager, Taj Fateh Prakash Palace

Taj Fateh Prakash Palace is part of Udaipur’s iconic 16th century City Palace Complex, which still serves as a royal residence today. The hotel itself was built by Maharana Fateh Singh as a venue to host royal events and at the Taj group, we’ve been blessed to run the property since 2020. This unique location means you have access to the city palace museums and are surrounded by rich cultural heritage – set in the heart of Udaipur, you’re also perfectly placed for sightseeing.

The architecture and design is typical Rajasthan, with arches, high ceilings and over 400 windows that look out over Pichola Lake and the Aravalli mountain range. There are many serene courtyards to enjoy, one of my favourites is ‘rang chalk’ which loosely translates to celebration courtyard and has an incredible 15th century palace façade. Throughout the hotel you’ll find ornate paintings and furniture which have come directly from the royal store rooms. Guests are amazed by our regal ballrooms with huge chandeliers, where kings once held court.

While keeping the property’s original features, we’ve revamped the hotel by adding facilities like the Jiva Spa and an infinity pool, but it’s still a heritage property where you can experience palace life. We have 50 suites and 15 rooms, some with gorgeous lake views and Jacuzzis. Each one has its own individual layout and décor, with paintings and royal artefacts. Guests love our English afternoon tea and Sunset Terrace restaurant, which faces west and has floor-to-ceiling windows and two decks where you can relax with a drink and watch the sunset over the lake, it’s the ideal way to end the day.
