The Old Delhi street photography tour

Capture images of life in Old Delhi on this photography tour of its markets, monuments and back lanes…

By Rajeev Goyal

If you want to capture images of real life in Delhi, this photo tour is perfect. I’ve learned that no two photographers are the same, so I always start this tour by sitting down with tea and asking guests what they’d like to photograph. We get all kinds of people, from professionals with high-spec camera gear to regular travellers taking pictures for Instagram on their iPhones. Our team are passionate storytellers who know Delhi intimately and can adapt to the photographer’s skill set, lighting and weather conditions.

Often, guests want to photograph the by-lanes and markets like Chawri Bazar. I like to take guests early to the flower market, which is where I’ve captured some of my best photos. Say, for example, a photographer wanted to work on the theme of life and age, we might photograph everything from an old lady with a wrinkled face to a ruined car or a vintage door. We had one guest who wanted to do a photo story on the Taj Mahal, so after visiting Agra he came here to photograph Humayun’s Tomb, which is known as the mini Taj.

Personally, I love to take guests around the crowded by-lanes of Old Delhi, taking candid pictures of the people who live there; Chandni Chowk is one of my favourite places for photography. During the tour, we have plenty of stops to get a drink, relax and perhaps try some street food. We get great feedback from guests and many like to send me their photos after the tour – I’m still in contact with lots of the photographers I’ve taken around Delhi, the youngest was six and the oldest 83!
