Stay in a traditional Hue Garden House

There used to be 1000s of garden houses but we’re losing this part of Hue’s history. That’s why Ancient Hue Garden House is so special…

Ancient Hue Garden Houses

Hue is famous for its pretty garden houses which visitors can experience at this unique property. During the 19th century, Hue was the capital of Vietnam and because its Mandarin inhabitants weren’t allowed to live inside the Imperial Citadel, they built their garden houses in Hue’s surrounding villages, mimicking the city’s architecture. They used the same wooden design and Feng Shui principles meant to circulate chi, as well as gardens filled with fruit trees.

There used to be thousands of garden houses but people don’t want to live in these small properties anymore and many have sold their land, so we’re losing this part of Hue’s heritage. That’s why Ancient Hue Garden House is so special. The property is located in Kim Long Village, a popular area for Mandarin residents, surrounded by green fields with a nearby pagoda, Thieu Mu.

The resort has five villas with eight rooms featuring wood carvings but the furnishings have been upgraded to international standard. The villas are all named after aspects of Hue culture, such as royal costumes and poems. Before it was a hotel, Ancient Hue Garden Houses was one of the area’s most famous restaurants which still operates today, serving Hue’s traditional royal cuisine with a contemporary international twist.

Although this hotel is about 10 minutes outside of Hue, visitors can cycle around the village and into Hue to explore its ancient history. We recommend Ancient Hue Garden Houses for guests who want to be immersed in the culture of Hue but enjoy some luxury – the property even has a pool and spa. If you’re looking for something unusual yet traditional, this is the place.
